Women’s Crossroads, Washoe County
Creating Supportive Spaces for Recovery and New Beginnings
Sparkflight Studios provided architectural design, programming, and construction administration services for the renovation and expansion of Women’s CrossRoads, a transitional housing and recovery facility located on Washoe County’s Our Place campus in Sparks, Nevada.
The project transformed two existing buildings, River House and Serenity House, into a more cohesive, accessible, and supportive environment for women overcoming homelessness, substance use challenges, and other life transitions. The renovation included 4,778 square feet of existing space and a new 1,163-square-foot connecting addition, creating an integrated facility of approximately 5,942 square feet.
Improvements included shared living and program support spaces, accessible restrooms and showers, enhanced circulation, and accessible parking and entry improvements. The design balances the challenges of adaptive reuse with the need to create welcoming, functional spaces that promote dignity, stability, and community.
Developed in collaboration with Washoe County Human Services Agency and Grace Church, the completed facility provides temporary housing and recovery support for up to 36 women. The project reflects Sparkflight Studios’ commitment to community-centered architecture, thoughtful renovation, and design that makes a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
